Start Date: 4/25/2017Start Time: 7:30 PM
End Date: 4/25/2017End Time: 9:00 PM

Come see GW's top public speaking students compete on April 25th

Five persuasive speakers representing their respective sections of The George Washington University’s public communication class will showcase their skills and compete for the school’s Oral Advocacy Award at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25th, in Funger Hall Room 108. The COMM 1040 Oral Advocacy Showcase and Competition, hosted by the Department of Organizational Sciences and Communication, welcomes all interested students, faculty, staff, and community members to attend; refreshments will be served.

One speaker will be nominated by his or her peers in each of the 13 sections of COMM 1040 Public Communication offered this year. After a preliminary round of judging, 5 speakers will advance to compete at the April 25th showcase and competition. Each will have 7 to 9 minutes to deliver his or her persuasive speech on a contemporary issue. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions following each speech.

All student participants will receive a prize for the distinction of being selected for the showcase. Just one persuasive speaker will be selected by a panel of judges to receive the Oral Advocacy Award on the night of the showcase.

The COMM 1040 Oral Advocacy Showcase and Competition highlights the abilities and accomplishments of undergraduate students enrolled in the introductory public speaking course. COMM 1040 Public Communication is a required course for Communication Majors and fulfills the oral communication requirement of GW’s General Education Curriculum, also known as G-PAC.

Out of respect for all showcase participants, attendees are kindly requested to stay for the duration of the program.
