The George Washington Department of English and the American Studies Film Club present ACTING UP: Queer Film and Video in the Time of AIDS. The film series is part of "Tony Kushner Live," a series of campus events marking the screenwriter's visit to campus on April 9 as part of the Jewish Literature Live series.

Bringing together nine films from the history of queer cinema along with readings from AIDS activists, scholars, and artists, ACTING UP reconstructs the affective and lived experience of the AIDS epidemic from the late 1980s to the end of the 20th century. The screenings will be introduced and followed by discussions lead by distinguished faculty and graduate students from GW, University of Maryland, College Park and Georgetown University. The films are as follows:

• Feb. 6: "The Living End" in Rome Hall, Room 77. Introduction by Caetlin Benson-Allot, assistant professor of English at Georgetown University.
• Feb. 20: "Longtime Companion" in Rome Hall, Room 771. Introduction by Chad Heap, chair of GW's Department of American Studies.
• Feb. 28: "Boys on the Side" in the School of Media and Public Affairs, Room B07. Introduction by Marilee Lindemann, director of the LGBT Studies Program at the University of Maryland.
• March 20: "Tongues Untied" in Rome Hall, Room 771. Introduction by GW Professor of English Robert McRuer.
• March 28: Part 1 of "Angels in America" in the School of Media and Public Affairs, Room B07. March 29: Part II of "Angels in America" in Rome Hall, Room 771. Both with an introduction by Ramzi Fawaz, postdoctoral fellow in GW's Department of American Studies.
• April 18: "Still Around" in the School of Media and Public Affairs, Room B07. Introduction by Matthew Tinkcom, associate dean of academic affairs at Georgetown University.
• April 24: "Common Threads" in Rome Hall, Room 771. Introduction by GW Associate Professor of American Studies Melani McAlister.
• May 2: "Silverlake Life" in the School of Media and Public Affairs, Room B07. Introduction by David Gerstner, professor of media culture at CUNY.
