Latin Jazz JAM

End Date: 4/9/2013End Time: 9:30 PM

Grammy award winners and legendary percussionists, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez and Giovanni Hidalgo join us for an evening of Latin jazz music in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Co-produced with the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History, this performance marks the launch a month of events honoring the genre.

Visit the Lisner Auditorium website to reserve free tickets.

This free event includes additional performances by Origem, Los Gringos-GW'S Latin Jazz Band and GW Jazz Faculty Group. The GW Jazz Faculty Group unites to express the excitement of Jazz and Latin idioms through music that shows the diversity of Jazz in the American experience. For this performance, each member will bring their unique influences to Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Caribbean and Latin Jazz genres. The listeners will hear Brazilian-inspired melodies and rhythms, the lyricism and unique harmonies of modern Jazz in compositions by Hermeto Pascoal, Paquito D’Rivera, Flora Purim and Airto, and faculty members.
