So You Need an App: How to Make the Right Software Development Choice for your Startup

By 2020, global mobile app downloads will reach 284 billion, making mobile apps even more of an industry standard than they are today. Whether you’re an entrepreneur launching your company from the ground up, an established business leader looking to reach new audiences, or a manager seeking to enrich internal operations, mobile and web apps can offer powerful solutions - if implemented effectively.

Join Hatch & the GW Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship for this interactive discussion!

This talk covers explanations of the software development options available (e.g. dev firm, in-house developers, freelancers, offshore, online tools) as well as key evaluation criteria such as time, cost, maintenance, reliability, and customization. We’ll also discuss key terms that will help you hire developers, talk to investors, and grow your business. Come with questions– this is intended as an actionable discussion to help you move your development projects forward.

About the Speaker: Amelia is co-founder and COO at Hatch, a Y Combinator Fellowship company making it possible for anybody to create and deploy software without coding. For her work, Amelia has been recognized as a Washingtonian Tech Titan, a Top 40 Entrepreneur Under 40 and a Power Woman of DC Tech. Prior to Hatch, Amelia founded the Student Language Exchange, an education nonprofit she grew to operate in 7 cities and for which she was awarded a Halcyon Fellowship. Amelia also serves as a mentor for the C.V. Starr Social Innovation fellowship, as a board member for the Vinetta Project, and on the advisory board for SXSW’s LAUNCHedu. She has written for outlets including the Atlantic, Forbes, and USA Today, and has spoken on her work at SXSW, the U.S. Capitol, and numerous academic conferences.
